PayPoint
About the Client
PayPoint is the UK's and Ireland's leading cash and internet payments company, handling over £4 billion in payments annually. The PayPoint branded retail network numbers over 17,500 terminals located in local shops in all parts of the UK and Ireland as well as 1850 'LINK'-branded machines also typically in convenience stores.
PayPoint recently acquired two major online payment providers’ - metacharge.com and secpay.com and needed a new website to be constructed as an amalgamation of the three brands to be located at paypoint.net.
The Brief
PayPoint was deep into the process of physically integrating the newly acquired brands; as such no formal brief was supplied. The primary objectives were captured as:
- the creation of a new brand identity (logo type and style guide) for paypoint.net leveraging the existing and high-profile brand equity within paypoint.com (and associated offline brand), but ‘jazzing it up’!
- the construction of one new search engine friendly website that encompasses two identical site structures that each replicate the existing sitemap of metacharge.com. The site structures will subsequently contain content covering the different propositions held currently in metacharge.com & secpay.com
- it is essential to deliver a website and supporting technology that can be 'taken in-house' over time if required for further development and support
The overriding priority of this project was to implement paypoint.net within extremely tight timescales.
Work Undertaken
Given the timescales of four weeks from signed off site map and design to implementation, it was essential that a no-risk approach to this project was undertaken. The robust and mature open source content management system (CMS) Modx was selected for this project.
Totally Communications worked extremely closely with the PayPoint team having to overcome the usual client / supplier relationship and become a true partner on the project with PayPoint.
The aggressive project timescales required rigorous project management and equally strong and consistent technical resources to ensure all aspects of the project were delivered correctly first time.
When resources at the client were tight, the team helped by loading and formatting content to ensure the hard launch date was achieved successfully.
The Result
The new site was handed over to the client within 4 weeks and ahead of schedule, and the site was launched on time and on budget. It now supports over 50,000 unique visitors a month in B2B traffic for the online brands PayPoint, Secpay and Metacharge.
Nicole Grainger, marketing director, PayPoint.net said
"It was essential not only for the website to successfully illustrate the validity of bringing the two brands together, but also for it to be live within a very short period of time. Because of this short deadline we needed to work with a partner that provided consistent consultative services beyond that of a traditional supplier. We are delighted with results and the manner in which the project was completed and the feedback we have received has all been extremely positive."
