Surviving my first week at Totally...SEO intern tells all

99 Problems ” was the anthem of my first time walking into Totally Communications. Deep down, I was worried somebody would ask if I would like something to drink or a brillo pad for my wind-swept, wet hair. I looked like I had gone for a jog, tripped over a doggie leash and been splashed by a bus. You know you look a mess when a staff member leads you to the back restroom prior to the interview. This was my first experience at Totally Communications. Rough! I’m happy to report that successive days went off without a hitch and were a total blast.

My first week was filled with words and facts I didn’t know existed such as “boiler plate text.” If I had not Googled that phrase, I would still think it was a culinary term.

SEO Intern

My first week was filled with words and facts I didn’t know existed such as “boiler plate text.” If I had not Googled that phrase, I would still think it was a culinary term. Honestly, I had a lot of catching up to do. I'm glad my mentors, Adam and Andrew, were on hand to explain it to me. Throughout the week, I was pleasantly surprised to find Totally's work environment inclusive, buzzing and fun. It was the first time I had been in a company meeting discussing weekly updates and love life check-up’s. The latter being my personal favourite.

All in all, the highlight of my week was understanding the processes and people of Totally. During the week I was asked why I liked working in SEO. My “cool-guy” answer is because it is a mirror of society and culture in a way.  In the end, in order to understand where SEO is going, you must examine the past, dissect the present and attempt to predict the future of digital marketing.
