Crisis Volunteer Management System

Crisis, the national charity for homeless people, selected Totally Communications to develop the Crisis at Christmas Volunteer Portal; a web-based volunteer management application that will automate the complete volunteering process for over 8,000 volunteers across ten locations, over 50 shift patterns, and 100 different volunteering roles.

The Brief

To develop a custom web based application that enables volunteers to apply, view their shifts and request changes and communicate with other volunteers. Crisis centres will also be able to monitor attendance and view operational data (such as shift lists) in real-time.

Project Requirements

Linux, Apache, MySql & PHP (LAMP). Front End Design, User Journey & Workflow. Online Volunteer Applications, Volunteer Dashboard & Shift Management.

The Result

Crisis has already experienced true measurable success since the portal went live. Paperwork has already been dramatically reduced and volunteers are creating a great experience by interacting online.

KEY FACTS

3 Month Design & Development Project.

10,000 applications processed in under 3 months.

90% of applications fully processed within 48 hours.

Event attendance tracking via barcode scanning.

Typically the staff at the Crisis head office are extremely busy processing applications manually, but because everything is automated this year, we have been able to plough many more resources into the event itself.
