Facebook Redesign
By Toby Mason
Added Monday 21/07/2008
Facebook is re-designing and we have a sneak preview. There is no doubt that it has put more emphasis on the advertising but in my opinion it's lost some of the simplistic charm it did so well. Take a look for yourselves.
Now, I know nobody likes change, but what is Facebook trying to do here? The navigation on "My Profile" page is all over the place and the page just looks like a mish mash of links and actions.
The adverts stand out nicely.
The applications have been sectioned off into their own tab which is a good thing for keeping the page clean but seems to defy the viral nature that most applications aspire to. If you can't see them you are unlikely to install them. Maybe that's the point!
The adverts stand out nicely.
In my view the only page that sort of works is the "home" page, but that maybe because it hasn't really changed that much. They've just compartmentalised the actions better down the right hand side.
No adverts on this page.
I am going to have a play with it this week and come back with a more formal website critique. First impressions count, have I been unfair?
